Help Gaining FSC Certification

Smoothing the Way to FSC Certification

The Intrim Group is a family-owned company that manufactures and supplies architectural building products for commercial and mainly high-end residential projects. Established 22 years ago as TMP Industries, the business has its production and warehousing facilities in Picton in Sydney’s Macarthur region. Carix has been working with the company for about two years.

With the increasing focus on sustainability, Intrim sought to gain Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody (FSC CoC) certification to access markets that specify timber products from well-managed forests.

Making things easier

Like all SMEs, Intrim was busy meeting customer requirements and so Carix helped smooth the way to certification. The support we provided included:

  • Liaising with the certifying organisation
  • Working with Intrim to document procedures to ensure FSC-certified products are correctly identified and segregated throughout the production process
  • Helping integrate FSC Chain-of-custody-compliant procedures with existing procedures
  • Reviewing the company’s audit and certification proposal and assessing its audit-readiness
  • Accompanying Intrim personnel during the audit inspection
  • Reviewing the audit report and helping Intrim respond to auditor requests
  • Training staff on implementing the FSC Chain-of-custody certification

Intrim was granted FSC Chain-of-custody certification. Intrim customers can now identify and select products that are sourced from certified responsibly managed forests.

The chain-of-custody certification is essential for accessing environmentally and socially aware markets. Having greater market access will bring economic benefits to the company.
